Trap-Neuter-Release and Neutering Benefits

Keeping It Snipped

There are many ways you can contribute to the welfare of cats in Singapore. In addition to responsible feeding, sterilisation is a big way you can contribute!

Benefits of sterilisation:

✓ Prevents females from going into “heat”, wanting to roam to find a mate and caterwauling

✓ Prevents the risk of testicular cancer in males and uterus

infections/cancers in females, the common one being Pyometra

✓ Reduces urine marking and roaming in male cats and injury due to fighting with other cats (this may also create complaints against cats in that area which may even result in cats being impounded)

✓ Avoids expensive vet bills - vet fees for problems during or after pregnancy and birth can be expensive. Kittens need veterinary attention too (eg,vaccination, de-worm treatment, flea treatment)

✓ Kittens that are living in community spaces are subjected to risk to car accidents, getting sick due to weather exposure and becoming victims of abusers

✓ Controls cat colonies by reducing the overall population

Community cats in Singapore are marked with tipped left ear, so they are easily identifiable. If you see a stray cat without a tipped left ear, do take the first step and book a free sterilisation slot for community cats at: https://www.catwelfare.org/community-cat-sterilisation-form/

Refer to the illustrated process flow for an easy guide on how to carry out a TNR.
