How to help injured and sick cats

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU SPOT A CAT WHO NEEDS HELP?

If the cat is SICK OR INJURED:

  • Bring the cat to a Vet as soon and get him/her treated (For 24 hours Vet, refer to attached photo)

  • Put up a post at FB cat groups including lost & found pages.

  • If you can’t bring to a Vet, Call SPCA 62875355 ext 9 (24 Hours)

  • Only contact via WhatsApp 8181 7050 for non-emergency (and only if you live around the area and can easily access the cat before SPCA arrives). They are likely to take a few hours to respond to WhatsApps.

  • Stay with the cat until SPCA arrives.

  •  If the cat is unable to move, carry it slowly and keep it in a cage or a carton box while waiting for SPCA to come.

  • Obtain a Case Number from SPCA upon rescue, to keep track of updates on the cat should there be a feeder or an owner looking for it. This will be in the form of a receipt.

If the cat is PREGNANT:

  • Secure and foster her if you can.

  • Bring her to a Vet. Check if the pregnancy could be aborted. (Abortion saves the homeless ones on the streets. We really don’t need more newborn kittens)

 — unless you really have the space to house them, and the time and experience to find them new homes.

  • Obtain the vet estimate or invoices to raise funds on cat groups on Facebook, if you are unable to foot the bill yourself.

  • If you can’t foster her, at least try securing her and post on cat groups on Facebook for legitimate fosterers or rescuers to assist you.

You’re the first to spot it and to render help, hence the cat will have a better survival chance because YOU are there.

Please dispel the myth that SPCA will put all cats to sleep. They only do that for animals that will not survive, or cats that will not have a quality of life after surgery. This practice helps with other cats that have higher survival rates. SPCA's resources are also limited, therefore naturally, priority is given to animals that will see the light of life after being rescued.

NOTE:

IF YOU CAN'T SECURE THE CAT, NEVER DISPLAY THE EXACT LOCATION ONLINE TO PREVENT CATNAPPERS, BREEDERS AND ANIMAL ABUSERS FROM TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION. ONLY REVEAL IT PRIVATELY TO TRUSTED RESCUERS OR CAREGIVERS FROM THE CAT COMMUNITY.
