CATPROOFING INFO, TYPES OF MESH N GRILLES

What mesh or grille type is suitable for my home?

The fact that you are here shows that you are well aware of the safety lapses amongst cat owners and that you are making some really pawsitive changes!

There are many choices when it comes to getting the right mesh or grille type according to your budget and personal tastes. The below guide was written by a cat rescuer who used to be in the engineering and built profession (which explains the hand drawings), and we hope that you will find something very useful from the photos and contacts provided:

Report Your Missing Pet Cat

I lost my cat!

If your pet cat is missing, please immediately contact Animal Response Centre (ARC) at 1800-476 1600 and SPCA at 6287 5355.

Provide the following information:

  • Where your pet was last seen
  • The time at which your pet was last seen
  • Your pet’s name, breed, approximate age, sex and colour
  • Microchip no
  • Description of the cat, e.g. tail length, tipped ear, collar colour, their characteristics etc
  • Standby all these details beforehand, with clear photos of your cat because you may be asked to email them to animal_feedback@nparks.gov.sg

Keep the search going

  • Go floor by floor, search thoroughly under racks and between vases of plants
  • Print fliers with your cat's photo, date and location last seen, and your contact no to distribute to neighbours
  • Put the fliers up around your neighbourhood
  • If you have searched the whole block, spend some time looking around your neighbourhood parks, parking lots and drains. Calling out to your cat and shaking its kibbles may draw it out of its hiding place
  • Try again at night, when it's quiet and your cat is likely to hear you
  • Place its litter box outside the house in the hopes that it can smell its way home
  • Check with the area feeders
  • Post in Lost & Found & other cat Facebook groups to seek assistance

Be vigilant and keep your cats safe

Keep your pet cats indoors. A roaming pet cat is more likely to be trusting and a lost pet cat may try to find a familiar place to hide like someone’s home, even if the resident doesn't like cats. They may also become a victim of other cats that already sees the neighbourhood as their territory. There are measures that can be taken to keep a cat safely indoors here.
