How to help lost cats

If the cat is a possible LOST CAT:

  • Secure the cat and foster him/her while the owner surfaces. Post on Facebook cat groups including Lost And Found pet pages to seek owner.

  • Put out a Found Cat poster or ad.

  • Try to find the owner for at least 7 days. If no owner surfaces, it is safe to rule it as abandoned.

  • During the 7 days, you can also send to a vet and scan for a microchip. If no microchip is found and the 7 days period is over, you can proceed to find an adopter.

  • Make a sterilisation appointment if cat is still intact (this is more obvious in male cats), or if the cat caterwauls or show other signs of possible heat.

If a microchip is found, call AVS at 1800 4761600 with the microchip number and they will trace the owner.

How do you tell if it’s a possible HOUSE CAT?

  •  Looks unfamiliar with and to the neighbourhood

  • Timid, very afraid of outdoors and/or keeps hiding

  • Emaciated-looking (like skin issues, underweight etc, usually when an owner abandons their cats because they don’t care for it anymore)

Please report abandonment to AVS at 1800 4761600 or go to: http://www.avs.gov.sg/feedback

You’re the first to spot it and to render help; the cat will have a better survival chance because YOU are there.

NOTE

IF YOU CAN'T SECURE THE CAT, NEVER DISPLAY THE EXACT LOCATION ONLINE TO PREVENT CATNAPPERS, BREEDERS AND ANIMAL ABUSERS FROM TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION. ONLY REVEAL IT PRIVATELY TO TRUSTED RESCUERS OR CAREGIVERS FROM THE CAT COMMUNITY.
